Daiso Skincare in Korea: Is the ₩3,000 Reedle Shot Really the Same?

Daiso skincare in Korea is genuinely cheap, but the ₩3,000 products are not necessarily the same thing as the full-size versions sold elsewhere. VT Reedle Shot 100 is the clearest example: Daiso sells 12ml for ₩3,000, while the regular 50ml product is listed at ₩32,000. Compare the actual volume and the regular version costs about 2.56 times as much per ml — not more than 10 times.

And price is only half the story.

VT has also addressed the Daiso comparison directly. According to the brand, the main ingredients are the same, but the formulation ratios differ.

That makes the real story of Daiso skincare much more interesting than:

“Korea sells the same ₩32,000 skincare for ₩3,000.”

It doesn’t.

But the value can still be remarkable.

First, the ₩3,000 vs. ₩32,000 comparison

If you look only at the price tags, the comparison seems almost absurd.

Daiso’s VT Reedle Shot 100 Facial Boosting First Ampoule is sold as six 2ml portions, for a total of 12ml, at ₩3,000.

The regular VT Reedle Shot 100 sold through Korean beauty retailers comes in a 50ml bottle. Olive Young lists that product at ₩32,000 before temporary discounts.

Here is what happens when you compare them properly.

ProductSizeListed pricePrice per ml
Daiso VT Reedle Shot 10012ml (2ml × 6)₩3,000₩250/ml
Regular VT Reedle Shot 10050ml₩32,000₩640/ml

Now look at the difference another way.

ComparisonResult
Sticker-price difference10.67×
Price-per-ml difference2.56×
Daiso unit-price savingabout 61%

The regular product really does have a sticker price more than ten times higher.

But it also contains more than four times as much product.

Once volume is included, the regular version costs about 2.56 times as much per ml.

That is still a very large difference.

It just is not the same as saying Daiso sells a ₩32,000 bottle for ₩3,000.

This is the first rule I would use when shopping for Daiso skincare in Korea:

Compare the amount inside the package, not just the number on the price tag.

The same problem appears elsewhere in Korean beauty retail. In my comparison of K-beauty prices in Korea and the US, seemingly simple price comparisons changed once I accounted for bottle sizes, double packs, refills and promotional configurations.

Daiso is another version of the same problem.

Is Daiso Reedle Shot the same as regular VT Reedle Shot?

Not exactly.

But the distinction needs to be made carefully.

The Daiso product is a real VT product. It is not an unrelated company making something that merely looks like Reedle Shot.

At the same time, you should not assume the liquid is identical simply because the brand and core concept are the same.

VT addressed this directly in a customer Q&A.

A customer said they had used the Daiso version and then experienced a different reaction after buying the regular product. They asked whether the ingredients or ingredient amounts were different.

VT replied that it could not disclose the specific amount of its proprietary Reedle complex, but stated that the main ingredients are the same and the formulation ratios differ.

That is a much more precise answer than either extreme commonly seen online.

It is not:

“The products are completely different.”

And it is not:

“They are exactly the same product in different packaging.”

The evidence supports a narrower conclusion:

The Daiso and regular VT Reedle Shot 100 share the main ingredients, but VT says their formulation ratios differ.

That matters.

Two cosmetic products can display very similar ingredient lists without telling you the exact concentration of every ingredient.

An ingredient list is not a formula sheet.

I covered that distinction in my guide to reading Korean skincare labels. Korean labels can tell you what ingredients are present, the volume, manufacturer, responsible seller and other useful information. But they cannot reveal every concentration or manufacturing detail.

So if someone compares two ingredient lists and concludes:

“Same list, therefore exactly the same product.”

I would not go that far.

VT’s own answer gives us a better reason not to.

Is Daiso skincare really cheaper per ml?

In this example, yes.

And this is important because correcting the viral price comparison does not make the Daiso deal disappear.

Four Daiso boxes would contain:

48ml for ₩12,000.

The regular bottle contains:

50ml for ₩32,000 at the listed price used in this comparison.

So even after bringing the quantities close together, the price gap remains substantial.

The point is not that Daiso skincare is secretly expensive.

It isn’t.

The point is that ₩3,000 vs. ₩32,000 answers the wrong question.

The useful question is:

How much product am I getting for that price, and is it actually the same formulation?

For Reedle Shot 100, the answer is:

Daiso remains much cheaper per ml, but the products are different in size and, according to VT, in formulation ratio.

That is a much more defensible reason to call the Daiso version good value.

Why is Daiso skincare so cheap in Korea?

The small package is part of the answer.

Daiso’s Reedle Shot 100 contains only 12ml in six small portions.

That immediately reduces the amount of product you have to buy at once.

But there is a larger retail story here too.

Daiso is built around low price points, so beauty companies entering the channel have to design products that work within that environment.

That can mean smaller quantities, Daiso-specific products, different formulations, different packaging or separate sub-brands and lines.

In other words, the better concept is not necessarily:

“dupe.”

It is:

“Daiso version.”

That distinction matters because a familiar logo does not mean the exact SKU sold at Olive Young has simply been moved onto a Daiso shelf at a fraction of the price.

The product itself may have been designed for the channel.

Daiso beauty is now a serious Korean retail category

Daiso skincare is no longer a handful of novelty products beside stationery and kitchen supplies.

The category has grown rapidly.

According to Korean reporting, Daiso’s beauty sales increased 144% year over year in 2024.

Then they grew by roughly 70% again in 2025.

By January 2026, Daiso carried roughly 1,700 beauty products from about 160 brands.

For perspective, Korean reporting put the 2022 assortment at only seven brands and around 120 products.

That is a major change in a few years.

Daiso itself has grown with it.

According to figures reported from Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service disclosure system, Asung Daiso recorded ₩4.5363 trillion in revenue in 2025, up 14.3% year over year, with cosmetics among the strategic categories cited as contributing to growth.

So the Korean context matters.

Daiso did not become a beauty destination simply because overseas TikTok discovered a ₩3,000 ampoule.

Beauty has become a meaningful part of the retailer’s Korean business.

Is Daiso skincare legit?

Daiso skincare from established brands sold through Daiso’s Korean retail channel should not be confused with counterfeit products simply because it is cheap.

The VT example makes that clear.

The Daiso Reedle Shot is a VT product.

But “legitimate” and “identical to the regular version” are two different claims.

And legitimate does not mean that every product will suit every person’s skin.

That is why I would check the package instead of judging a product by price alone.

Look for:

  • the exact product name
  • volume or weight
  • full ingredient list
  • manufacturer
  • responsible cosmetic seller
  • expiration or use-by information
  • functional-cosmetic claims where applicable

If the Korean text on the back is unfamiliar, my Korean skincare label guide explains the key terms, including 전성분 for the full ingredient list, 용량 for volume, 제조업자 for manufacturer and 화장품책임판매업자 for the responsible cosmetic seller.

The front tells you the brand.

The back tells you much more about what you are actually buying.

The small size can actually be an advantage

There is one reason I particularly like the logic behind low-cost Daiso beauty:

experimentation.

Buying 50ml of a treatment you have never used before is a commitment.

Buying 12ml for ₩3,000 is a different decision.

You spend less.

You bring home less.

And if you dislike the texture, the application method or simply decide the product does not belong in your routine, you are not left with most of a full-size bottle.

That makes Daiso particularly interesting as a trial channel for Korean beauty.

The Reedle Shot format makes this unusually obvious because the 12ml comes as six individual 2ml portions.

Small is not always worse.

Sometimes small is the point.

But small does not automatically mean better value

The opposite mistake is possible too.

Once people discover how inexpensive Daiso beauty can be, it is easy to assume that Daiso must always be the cheapest place to build a Korean skincare routine.

I would not make that assumption.

For something you already use every day, a larger bottle can be more convenient.

Olive Young also frequently sells promotional configurations such as 1+1 offers, refills, oversized bottles and gift sets.

That is why I would compare:

price → total volume → formulation → package configuration

rather than:

Daiso price → Olive Young price

and stop there.

My guide to Olive Young bestseller rankings makes a similar point from the opposite direction: a highly ranked Olive Young listing can be a double pack, refill set or special promotional configuration rather than one standard bottle.

At Olive Young, the deal can make the package look unusually large.

At Daiso, the tiny sticker price can make the package look unusually cheap.

In both cases:

Read what is actually being sold.

Daiso vs. Olive Young: which is better for skincare?

They solve different shopping problems.

I would use Daiso for:

Low-cost experimentation.
You can try a product or ingredient concept without committing much money.

Small formats.
These can be useful for travel or for products you do not use frequently.

Daiso-specific products.
Some established Korean beauty companies develop products specifically for this retail channel.

Impulse purchases with a low financial downside.
A ₩3,000 experiment is easier to justify than a ₩30,000 one.

I would use Olive Young when I want:

A much wider beauty assortment.

Regular full-size products.

Promotional sets, refills and 1+1 configurations.

A clearer view of what is selling across a specialist Korean beauty retailer.

I would not call one objectively better.

They are different retail environments.

Should tourists buy skincare at Daiso in Korea?

Yes — Daiso is worth visiting if you are shopping for K-beauty in Korea.

But I would not arrive with a TikTok list and assume every ₩3,000 item is a hidden version of a ₩30 product.

Instead, ask four questions.

1. What is the exact product?

Do not stop at the brand name.

2. How much is inside?

A small package can explain part of an apparently enormous price difference.

3. Is the formulation actually the same?

Do not assume that it is.

The Reedle Shot example is particularly useful because VT has explicitly said that the formulation ratios differ.

4. What is the price per ml or gram?

This takes seconds to calculate and can completely change the comparison.

That is a better shopping strategy than looking for “dupes.”

Daiso is also not the same thing as Korean pharmacy skincare

There is another distinction worth making if you are visiting Korea specifically to shop for beauty products.

Daiso and Korean pharmacies are not interchangeable sources of “cheap Korean skincare.”

Daiso’s beauty section is a cosmetics retail environment.

A Korean pharmacy may sell cosmetics too, but it can also sell products that are legally classified differently, including OTC medicines.

Some tubes that appear in overseas “Korean pharmacy skincare” videos are not cosmetics at all.

I explained those categories separately in my Korean pharmacy skincare guide.

So I would ask a different question in each store.

At Daiso:

What exact cosmetic am I getting for this price?

At a Korean pharmacy:

What kind of product is this, and what is it intended to do?

Those questions are much more useful than treating every inexpensive Korean beauty product as part of one giant bargain category.

The bottom line

Daiso skincare in Korea really can offer exceptional value. But the viral ₩3,000-vs.-₩32,000 comparison needs context.

VT Reedle Shot 100 shows why.

The Daiso product contains:

12ml for ₩3,000 = ₩250/ml

The regular product contains:

50ml for ₩32,000 = ₩640/ml

The sticker-price gap is more than tenfold.

The unit-price gap is about 2.56 times.

The Daiso version is therefore about 61% cheaper per ml at those listed prices.

That is still a major difference.

There is also a formulation distinction. VT has stated that the main ingredients are the same but the formulation ratios differ.

So I would not describe the Daiso product as:

“The exact same ₩32,000 skincare for ₩3,000.”

A more accurate description is:

Daiso gives Korean beauty brands a low-price retail channel where they can sell smaller and sometimes differently formulated products at unusually low entry prices.

That is why Daiso skincare is interesting.

Not because Korea has somehow found a way to sell every expensive cosmetic for one-tenth of the price.

But because a ₩3,000 product can still be genuinely inexpensive even after you do the math properly.

Daiso Skincare FAQ

Is Daiso skincare really ₩3,000 in Korea?

Yes. Some Daiso skincare products are sold at ₩3,000, including the VT Reedle Shot 100 example in this article. Other beauty products can have different Daiso price points.

Is Daiso Reedle Shot the same as regular VT Reedle Shot?

Not exactly. VT has stated that the main ingredients are the same but that the formulation ratios differ. The Daiso Reedle Shot 100 is also sold in a much smaller 12ml configuration, compared with the regular 50ml product used in this comparison.

Why is Daiso skincare so cheap?

Part of the answer can be smaller package sizes. Brands can also develop products, formulations, packaging or lines for Daiso’s low-price retail environment rather than simply selling the identical full-size SKU for a fraction of its normal price.

Is Daiso skincare cheaper than Olive Young?

Often at the sticker-price level, but that does not automatically make it a like-for-like comparison. Check the volume, formula and package configuration. Olive Young also frequently sells discounted full-size products, double packs, refills and promotional sets.

Is Daiso skincare legit?

Products made by established beauty companies specifically for Daiso are legitimate products from those companies. Low price alone does not make a product counterfeit. However, you should not assume a Daiso-specific product is identical to another product from the same brand.

Is Daiso skincare worth buying in Korea?

It can be particularly useful for inexpensive experimentation, small formats and Daiso-exclusive products. For products you already use regularly, compare the price per ml with full-size bottles and promotional sets before deciding which offers better value.

Prices, product configurations and retail information were checked in September 2026. Prices, formulations, stock and Daiso assortments can change. The Reedle Shot comparison uses the stated ₩3,000 Daiso price and the ₩32,000 regular price rather than temporary promotional discounts.
