Search for the best Korean lip balm, and you will usually find familiar K-beauty names.
Laneige. Torriden. Maybe a tinted balm that went viral on TikTok.
But there is a problem with that question.
The lip products people actually buy in Korea are not necessarily Korean.
I checked Olive Young Korea’s current lip-care pages in September 2026, and that distinction shows up immediately.
Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence is currently labelled “립케어 1등” — No. 1 in lip care — on Olive Young Korea.
But Olive Young’s own lip-balm guide also highlights imported brands such as Bioderma, Uriage and Blistex alongside Korean products.
And when you look backward, the pattern becomes even clearer: Torriden and Bioderma have both performed strongly in recent Olive Young Awards.
So instead of making another list of seven Korean-brand lip balms, I wanted to answer a more useful question:
What lip care is actually established in Korea in 2026 — and which product should you choose if you specifically want a Korean brand?
Current product and retail data checked in September 2026. Prices, promotions and retailer labels can change. Historical Olive Young Awards data is included only as context for longer-term performance. This article contains no affiliate links.
The Short Answer
If you specifically want a Korean-brand lip-care product, my clearest pick is:
Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence.
As of September 2026, Olive Young Korea labels the 11ml product “립케어 1등” — No. 1 in lip care.
The listed price was ₩7,000 when I checked.
Check Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence at Olive Young Korea
And this is not a product that suddenly appeared in 2026.
Torriden ranked No. 2 in the 2024 Olive Young Awards lip-care category and moved to No. 1 in 2025.
That historical data matters because it gives the current label some context.
But if your question is slightly different —
“What lip balm is popular in Korea?”
— then restricting the answer to Korean brands would be misleading.
Olive Young’s own lip-care content also prominently features French brands such as Bioderma and Uriage and international lip-care names such as Blistex.
So the first thing to understand is:
“Korean lip balm” and “lip balm popular in Korea” are not the same category.
What Olive Young Korea Shows in 2026
There is no single permanent list of Korea’s five favorite lip balms.
Live rankings move.
Prices change.
Promotions change.
And different Olive Young pages measure or curate products in different ways.
So I looked for multiple signals instead of treating one ranking screenshot as a national popularity survey.
The strongest current signal is Torriden.
Olive Young Korea currently sells:
Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence 11ml
with the label:
립케어 1등 — No. 1 in lip care
and a listed price of:
₩7,000
when checked in September 2026.
Olive Young also has a Korean feature built around the keyword 립밤 — lip balm.
The retailer says lip balm remained among its top three search terms for three months in the period represented by that feature.
Inside the guide, Olive Young highlights products from brands including:
- Uriage
- Bioderma
- Blistex
- Torriden
- Physiogel
- Vaseline
- ISOI
See Olive Young Korea’s lip-balm feature
That list is more revealing than it might look.
Some are Korean brands.
Some are not.
The Korean lip-care market is not a Korean-brand-only market.
1. Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence
Best for: A Korean-brand pick with the strongest current Olive Young signal
If someone asked me:
“What Korean lip balm should I buy in Korea right now?”
this is where I would start.
Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence is an 11ml tube-style lip product.
Olive Young’s current Korean listing calls it:
[립케어 1등]
or:
[No. 1 in lip care]
The listed price was ₩7,000 when checked.
Olive Young’s separate lip-balm guide also includes Torriden in its stronger-moisture section and describes the product around jojoba oil and ceramide.
Is it actually popular, or just popular right now?
This is where the historical data becomes useful.
Torriden also ranked:
No. 2 — 2024 Olive Young Awards, Lip Care
No. 1 — 2025 Olive Young Awards, Lip Care
That does not prove Torriden is the best lip product for every person in Korea.
But the combination of:
2024 No. 2 → 2025 No. 1 → current 2026 Olive Young “No. 1 in lip care” label
is a much stronger signal than one temporary bestseller position.
It suggests continuity.
Why is it called a lip essence?
This is also a very Korean-beauty naming question.
Torriden does not call the product a lip balm.
It calls it:
립 에센스 — lip essence.
Do not assume that means it occupies a formally defined step above lip balm.
Korean beauty product nouns are often less standardized than English-language K-beauty guides make them sound.
I found the same problem when I looked at Essence vs. Serum vs. Ampoule: What the Words Mean in Korea.
Korean retailers group those facial-skincare terms together much more loosely than the familiar:
essence → serum → ampoule
“strength ladder” suggests.
Lip essence works in a similar practical way.
The useful question is not:
Is an essence stronger than a balm?
It is:
What does this particular product do?
In Torriden’s case, it is moisturizing lip care.
Picked in Korea verdict
The clearest current choice if you specifically want a Korean-brand lip-care product backed by recent Korean retail evidence.
2. Bioderma Atoderm Lip Stick
Best for: Understanding what Koreans actually buy
Bioderma is where this article gets more interesting.
Because Bioderma is not Korean.
It is French.
Yet Olive Young describes Bioderma Atoderm Lip Stick as a Korean lip-care bestseller and even refers to it by the nickname:
국민립밤 — “national lip balm.”
That is a colloquial way of saying a product is extremely familiar or widely used — not an official national title.
More importantly, Bioderma’s Korean popularity is not just a 2026 editorial mention.
It ranked:
No. 1 in the 2024 Olive Young Awards lip-care category
and
No. 2 in 2025.
So should Bioderma appear in an article about the best Korean lip balm?
If by Korean lip balm you mean:
made by a Korean brand
then no.
But if you arrived here because you actually wanted to know:
what people buy for their lips in Korea
then leaving Bioderma out would distort the picture.
Why this matters
K-beauty content outside Korea often begins by deciding which brands count as Korean and then comparing only those brands.
That is useful if your goal is specifically to buy Korean-made beauty.
But it does not necessarily tell you what the Korean beauty market looks like.
Korean consumers can walk into Olive Young and choose between Korean and international brands on the same shopping trip.
And sometimes the international product wins.
Picked in Korea verdict
Not a Korean-brand lip balm, but one of the clearest examples of a lip-care product genuinely established in Korea.
3. Uriage Stick Lèvres
Best for: Another long-established Korea-market lip balm
Uriage gives us another example of the same phenomenon.
It is also French.
Olive Young’s lip-balm feature specifically highlights Uriage Stick Lèvres Original and says the product has won in the retailer’s lip-care awards for five consecutive years.
That kind of longevity is important.
It shows that imported lip care appearing in Korea is not necessarily a niche alternative sitting on a foreign-products shelf.
Some international products have become deeply established in Korean beauty retail.
Picked in Korea verdict
Another strong example of a non-Korean product with long-running visibility in Korea’s lip-care market.
4. Blistex Lip Medex
Best for: Intensive-feeling lip care
Blistex is another international brand featured in Olive Young’s current Korean lip-balm content.
Olive Young places Blistex Lip Medex in its stronger-moisture section and specifically discusses it in relation to dry, flaky lips.
Again, this is useful because it tells us something about how Olive Young presents lip care to Korean shoppers.
The category is not organized around:
K-beauty vs. Western beauty.
It is organized around:
What do you want this product to do?
That is usually the more useful way to shop.
Picked in Korea verdict
More relevant if your priority is intensive-feeling care for dry lips than if your priority is buying a Korean brand.
5. Physiogel DMT Mild Lip Balm
Best for: Straightforward everyday lip care
Physiogel DMT Mild Lip Balm also appears in Olive Young’s current lip-balm selection.
When checked in September 2026, the listing shown through Olive Young’s feature was ₩10,900.
Like Bioderma, Uriage and Blistex, Physiogel helps illustrate how mixed the Korean lip-care shelf actually is.
This is not a category where Korean consumers necessarily choose Korean brands first and imported products second.
Products compete together.
Picked in Korea verdict
A straightforward everyday option in Olive Young’s current Korean lip-balm selection, but not my pick if your specific goal is to buy K-beauty.
So Where Are Laneige and the Viral Korean Lip Products?
This is probably the obvious question.
Search for Korean lip care internationally and Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is difficult to miss.
But international visibility and current Korean retail positioning are two different signals.
Laneige did appear in the 2024 Olive Young Awards lip-care category as an MD’s Pick.
That confirms it has Korean-market visibility.
But I would not take its enormous global recognition and turn that into the claim:
“Laneige is Korea’s No. 1 lip balm.”
The data used for this article does not support that.
It is also a different format.
A Lip Sleeping Mask is designed around overnight treatment.
Torriden’s Lip Essence is a tube-style moisturizing product.
Bioderma and Uriage are traditional stick-style lip products.
Putting all of them into one numbered list and declaring one objectively “best” would erase those differences.
That is why I prefer:
best for a particular use
rather than:
#1 through #10.
What About Tinted Korean Lip Balms?
That is really a neighboring category.
Once significant color becomes part of the product, the comparison starts moving from basic lip care toward makeup.
Korean beauty has plenty of products sitting between those categories:
- tinted balm
- lip treatment
- lip glow
- gloss
- tint
- color-care lip essence
But someone searching for the best moisturizing lip balm and someone searching for a sheer Korean lip color are not necessarily looking for the same thing.
So I would keep them separate.
This article is about 립케어 — lip care.
Not Korean lip tints.
Does “Lip Essence” Mean Something Different in Korea?
Not as much as the name might suggest.
In practical shopping terms, a lip essence overlaps heavily with products English-speaking shoppers might call:
lip balm
or
lip treatment.
The texture and packaging can differ, but there is no useful universal rule saying:
lip balm → lip essence → lip mask
in increasing order of strength.
That is similar to what happens with Korean facial skincare terminology.
As I found in Essence vs. Serum vs. Ampoule, the noun alone does not reliably tell you how concentrated or powerful a product is.
For lip care, read the product itself.
Not just the noun printed on the package.
Are Korean Lip Balms Cheaper in Korea?
Sometimes.
But do not assume that simply because the brand is Korean.
The final price can depend on:
- the exact SKU
- current discount
- double sets
- Olive Young-exclusive configurations
- gifts
- exchange rates
- overseas retailer promotions
I found exactly this problem when I compared identical Korean skincare products between Korea and the US.
For the products I checked, Korea was cheaper — but the size of the difference changed dramatically once promotions and package sizes were taken into account.
You can see the full comparison in Is K-Beauty Actually Cheaper in Korea? I Compared the Prices.
The same rule applies to lip care:
compare the exact product and package, not just the brand name.
Is Torriden Lip Essence Actually Popular in Korea?
Yes — with an important qualification.
As of September 2026, Olive Young Korea labels Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence:
립케어 1등 — No. 1 in lip care.
Historically, it also ranked:
No. 2 in 2024
and
No. 1 in 2025
in the Olive Young Awards lip-care category.
That is meaningful evidence of sustained performance at Olive Young.
What it does not mean is:
“Every Korean uses Torriden.”
Olive Young is a major Korean beauty retailer, but it is not the entire Korean lip-care market.
People also buy lip products through:
- brand stores
- department stores
- pharmacies
- convenience stores
- online marketplaces
- other beauty retailers
So the accurate conclusion is narrower:
Torriden is one of the strongest Korean-brand lip-care products in recent Olive Young data, and it remains prominently positioned there in 2026.
That is enough to make it my first Korean-brand pick.
Is Laneige the Most Popular Lip Balm in Korea?
I would not make that claim.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask is one of the most internationally recognizable Korean lip-care products.
But global recognition does not automatically translate into No. 1 status inside Korea.
The current 2026 Olive Young evidence used for this article points more clearly toward Torriden for Korean-brand lip care.
And Olive Young’s broader lip-balm content also highlights several non-Korean brands.
That difference is exactly why I started Picked in Korea.
The question is not:
What K-beauty product is most visible internationally?
It is:
What does the Korean market actually show?
Do Koreans Only Use Korean Lip Care?
No.
And this may be the most useful answer in the entire article.
Olive Young’s Korean lip-balm content includes Korean and international brands side by side.
Bioderma has been extremely successful.
Uriage has a long awards history.
Blistex appears in Olive Young’s current lip-care recommendations.
Torriden is currently labelled No. 1 in lip care.
There is no contradiction here.
Korean consumers buying French or American lip care does not make those products K-beauty.
It simply tells us what the Korean market actually looks like.
Which Lip Balm Should You Buy in Korea?
Here is the simplest version.
| If you want… | Start with… |
|---|---|
| A Korean brand with the strongest current Olive Young signal | Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence |
| A long-established product popular in Korea regardless of origin | Bioderma Atoderm Lip Stick |
| Another long-running Korea-market favorite | Uriage Stick Lèvres |
| Intensive-feeling care for dry, flaky lips | Blistex Lip Medex |
| Straightforward everyday lip care | Physiogel DMT Mild Lip Balm |
| Overnight Korean lip care | Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask |
This is not a shopping list.
You do not need six lip products.
It is a way to separate six different reasons someone might search for the “best Korean lip balm.”
So What Is the Best Korean Lip Balm in 2026?
If the question is:
“Which Korean-brand lip-care product has the strongest current evidence from Olive Young Korea?”
my answer is:
Torriden Solid-In Ceramide Lip Essence.
As of September 2026, Olive Young labels it No. 1 in lip care.
Its recent history strengthens that conclusion rather than replacing the current evidence:
2024 Olive Young Awards: No. 2
2025 Olive Young Awards: No. 1
September 2026: currently labelled No. 1 in lip care at Olive Young Korea
But the broader Korean market tells a more interesting story.
Bioderma is French.
Uriage is French.
Blistex is American.
And all appear in Olive Young’s Korean lip-care ecosystem alongside Torriden and other Korean products.
So there are really two different questions:
What is a strong Korean lip balm?
Torriden.
What lip care do people in Korea actually buy?
That answer crosses borders.
And that distinction is much more useful than another list of whatever happens to be trending internationally.
